Match Report

The Crown won the league fairly convincingly, only losing one league match in the process (to the Swan). Following a victory against HRG in their last match Anite were awarded second place. Although they had the same number of points as the Swan they got the nod by virtue of their win against the Swan earlier in the season. Well done to both teams.

The Cup Final was played at Aldershot Cricket Ground on 21st July. The Swan won the toss and elected to bat. DBE kept the score down to 113 from 20 overs and felt this was a gettable target. The DBE reply started with the loss of two quick wickets. Although the next three batsmen repaired the damage to some extent they were unable to put in any really big overs. This was doe to some tight bowling and good fielding from the Swan. When Carl Delaney retired with 35 no DBE were still in with a shout but they would need some quick boundaries. These were not forthcoming and DBE finished 10 runs short.

So, the Swan won the Cup, with DBE as runners-up. The Swan captain, Matt Sparks, won a well deserved man of the match award for his all round performance. Our thanks go to Malcolm Kerry and Tony Blenkinsop for allowing us use of Aldershot Cricket Club for the final and also to Suzie and Pete Brewer (Teachers) for, respectively, scoring and umpiring at the final.  All in all it was a good evening.

In conclusion, the season has finished and most matches were completed. All teams have paid their subs and all debts have been settled. Furthermore, the league is still solvent! Please let me know as earlier as possible if your team does not intend to compete next year. Otherwise, we’ll be looking to hold an AGM in February/March 2011.
